The Process of Candidacy
The search committee will begin reviewing candidates in early December, 2007. The new president is expected to take office in the summer of 2008.
Anyone interested in being considered for this position should visit and do an in-depth study of the Bethel University website (www.bethel.edu).
In order to help the search committee get a more complete picture of you and your candidacy, please provide essay responses to the following questions:
- How has your faith journey defined you as a person and prepared you
to be president of a university rooted in the evangelical, pietistic
tradition of the Christian church?
- Discuss the marks of maturity of intellect, character,
interpersonal relationships, and Christian faith that must be nurtured
in students if the university is truly to prepare them for lives of
service, leadership, and reconciliation in church and society.
- Describe the essential elements of your leadership style and how
this style would enable you to excel in organizational, academic, and
fiscal leadership of Bethel University. Include a high and a low point
from your past leadership experiences, and tell us what you learned
from them. If you don’t have specific academic experience, what other
experiences lead you to believe you can be successful in academic
leadership?
- Please briefly define the following terms: diversity,
reconciliation, antiracism, and social justice. Then write a brief
narrative illustrating from your life, leadership, and faith journey
how these ideas have taken on flesh through your lifestyle, actions,
and discipleship.
- Please share your experiences in fund raising and development. If
you have not had such experience, please elaborate on what skills you
have that lead you to believe that you can be successful in those areas.
