Bethel Seminary San Diego Marital and Family Therapy

This program is designed from the perspective of family systems for students who would like to work with couples and families as a licensed marriage and family therapist in a variety of areas. Graduates of the program work in many settings, including:

This degree also prepares students for doctoral programs in marriage and family studies if they wish to continue their education.

Marriage and family courses are scheduled to provide a combination of predictability and flexibility. Biblical, theological, and historical courses are taken as part of the present seminary offerings in the evening and online.  Contact the Office of Admissions for further information on this year's schedule.


Bethel Seminary is accredited through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and through the Association of Theological Schools.

The marriage and family therapy master's program at Bethel Seminary San Diego is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), 112 S. Course work meets the academic requirements for licensure as a marriage and family therapist in California as well as in most other states. Students seeking licensure in California should obtain information regarding clinical requirements by contacting:

Bethel is the only seminary in San Diego County that is regionally and nationally accredited, has a MFT program that is COAMFTE accredited and listed on the BBS accredited list.


A 500-hour, 12-month practicum and two (three are recommended) academic years are necessary for the completion of the program. Learn more about our Practicum program.
