To maintain and support Bethel's new site, there are three valuable roles behind all web content production.

Web Author

Web authors are trained in Bethel's web systems and serve as the web expert for their office or department. They work closely with both content contributors in their area and Web Services to keep their webpages running smoothly.

Responsibilities of web authors:

  • Respond to web updates and requests from content contributors.
  • Make necessary edits or updates for your office or department.
  • Consult Web Services on any requests for new webpages, technologies, or major site updates.
  • Request additional training from Web Services as needed.
  • Submit calendar events for your office or department (can be delegated to a content contributor if needed).
  • Keep up with Bethel's web standards and best practices.

Content Contributor

Content contributors provide the information communicated through Bethel's web channels. They know the details behind events, admissions, class registration, programs, billing, student activities, and more.

It's their job to support their local web author by letting them know when content should be updated and providing them with the necessary information.

Responsibilities of content contributors:

  • Review webpages on a regular basis to make sure information is current.
  • Request web updates or changes through your local web author.
  • Give your web author ample time to work on any web updates. To avoid making urgent requests, send updates to your author 2 weeks before changes need to be reflected on the web.

Chief Editor

Chief editors review and publish web updates submitted by web authors on the public site. As part of the Web Services team, chief editors understand all components of Bethel's web ecosystem.

Responsibilities of chief editors:

  • Review and publish content submitted by web authors within 1-3 business days.
  • Ensure web authors have the training and support they need.
  • Stay current on web best practices (web writing, architecture, sustainability, metadata, search engine optimization, measurement, and more).
  • Set and enforce editorial guidelines and web standards to keep the user experience consistent across Bethel’s website.
  • Create and adjust the process for publishing web content.
