will compete this Friday through Monday in the national

Mathematical Contest in Modeling

organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) and sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA), the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). See http://www.comap.com/undergraduate/contests/mcm/ for further information. Here is the problem they will tackle.

These students will bring all the skills that they have learned in their mathematics and computer science courses to analyze a very challenging open-ended problem in applied mathematics. They have from midnight on Friday morning until midnight on Tuesday morning to work on the problem.

Make sure you cheer them on if you see
them hard at work this weekend!
