In 2010, Bethel’s leadership sought to establish a strong culture of planning at the university with the intent of advancing our mission in a rapidly changing environment.
The strategic plan, which was intended to guide the university over the next 5 years, was integral to that effort. The plan helped to clarify priorities for investing resources, including time, energy, and money. It also was used to guide and direct our operational planning throughout the university.
The goal of the Strategic Plan Stewardship Committee was to ensure follow-through on all 38 strategic initiatives.
The team met monthly to review progress, understand new developments that could alter the accomplishment of an initiative, and make any recommended next steps to the president. The committee was comprised of faculty and staff representatives from across the university.

At the February 2014 Board of Trustees meeting, President Barnes spoke about strategic directions for the university, which are outlined in the Strategic Direction 2021 document (pdf).
In May 2014, a board-initiated project called the Strategic Coalition began. The project involved trustees, senior administrators, and faculty from all schools who were asked to develop a vision and set of strategic objectives to guide the university from 2015-2025, bringing the 2010-2015 Strategic Plan to a close.
