BUILD students will complete 66 credits to attain a Certificate in Applied Studies. Those credits will include core courses, internships, and other selected Bethel University courses. Our courses are designed to meet students where they’re at and help each individual student develop essential skills for college and independent living.

Core Courses

Core course topics will follow four threads:

  • Independent Living
  • Social Skills and Self-determination
  • Math and Finances
  • Jobs and Employment

These topics will be individualized and continued in increasing depth throughout the two years of the BUILD program.

Bible Course Work

All BUILD students will receive coursework in Bible and Theology with a heavy application emphasis. As with all courses at Bethel, integration of faith and learning is paramount.

Elective Courses

You can choose from a set of courses from a variety of departments.

Students will follow the regular Bethel schedule with classes scheduled Monday through Friday.

Each semester BUILD students will be involved in an internship. One credit of internship equals 37.5 hours of on-site work. Students are set up in internships based on their interests and work-readiness so the schedule and sites vary greatly for each individual student. Employability is a goal of the BUILD program. On- and off-campus internships provide you the opportunity to gain work skills and put them into practice. During the first year of the BUILD program, students start with an internship skills course followed by an internship with support from a job mentor. The second year of work experiences will be off campus. Students will have support and their work experience will be closely matched to their area of career interest.
