  • Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry - D.Min., 2011

Spiritual history. I grew up in a committed Christian home with three emphases: church, education, and sports. Although familiar with the Christian faith, I did not become a real Jesus follower until my junior year of college at Harvard during the student protests in the late 1960s. At that time I sensed a call to ordained ministry rather than an academic career. For the remainder of my college days and throughout seminary I attended Park Street Congregational Church in Boston, where I was mentored in a vibrant student ministry.

Pastoral experience. Upon graduation from seminary I was ordained at Park Street Church and commissioned to help start a new church in suburban Boston. Over the next twelve years I became more and more interested in the Anglican  tradition, eventually moving to San Diego in 1987 where I was ordained deacon and the priest. I served three different Episcopal churches in San Diego before joining the Anglican Church in North American when it began in 2009.

Current ministry. In January 2010 I led a launch team to start Holy Spirit Anglican Church in the College Area of San Diego. The church meets for worship in the chapel of Bethel Seminary, where I teach as an adjunct professor of Anglican Studies. Besides ministering to the students of San Diego State University and to young families in the area, this church has become a training site for new priests entering the Anglican Church in North America. In January 2017 I will become Canon for Clergy Development in the Diocese of Western Anglicans.

"Give up yourself, and you will find your real self. Lose your life and you will save it. Submit to death, death of your ambitions and favorite wishes every day and death of your whole body in the end: submit with every fibre of your being, and you will find eternal life. Keep back nothing. Nothing that you have not given away will ever be really yours. Nothing in you that has not died will ever be raised from the dead. Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with Him everything else thrown in. - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
