Bonnie Houck served with students for over twenty years an educator. She has taught pre-kindergarten through postgraduate education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, serving as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, literacy coach, and district literacy coordinator. Bonnie also served as the Minnesota Department of Education’s reading specialist for over five years. Since 2003, Bonnie’s passion for literacy education led to experiences as the State Reading Specialist for the Minnesota Department of Education, the Program Coordinator and lecturer for the University of Minnesota K-12 Reading Licensure Program, and the Director of The McKnight Foundation’s Education and Learning Program. For the past six years, Bonnie has facilitated the Minnesota Elementary School Principals’ Association (MESPA) Literacy Academy. Her books, Literacy Unleashed: Fostering Excellent Reading Instruction through Classroom Visits (ASCD) and Raising a Reader (R&L Education), support parents and educators in ensuring children have the opportunity to become strong readers.
