Partner with Reach Global Crisis Response in rebuilding homes and restoring hope to families affected by Hurricane Dorian in fall 2019.
Date
March 14-22, 2020
Location
Bahamas. The precise location is to be determined based on relief progress and ministry networking.
The Experience
Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm-with sustained winds of up 185 mph. The damage left behind was extensive and nearly completely leveled homes, businesses, and churches. Most assuredly, our team will spend 6 days on-site doing physical labor-joining the relief and recovery wherever things stand at the time. While the tangible rebuilding is important, relationships are critical, too. Our ministry partners on-site are telling us the Bahamian people need their stories to be heard, to feel seen, and to be known. God's transformational power will be at work.
Our Ministry Partner
We partner with Praying Pelican Missions. Praying Pelican had church partnerships prior to the hurricane and those continue in the present. PPM partners with local churches-with local pastors and ministry leaders who take the lead, direct the work, and lead their congregations to do ministry in Jesus' name (our team joins in with that existing ministry).
Trip Cost
This team of 15 students has a team fundraising goal of about $22,500. Fundraising will be a major part of the year for this team, which will tremendously help the financial bottom line!
Who Should Participate
Are you interested in helping those in need after a natural disaster or crisis situation? Do you have a heart for relational evangelism? Are you passionate about the power of prayer? Do you have experience with construction or an openness to learn construction skills like drywalling, insulating, sanding, and mudding? If so, this trip is for you!
While construction is a large part of our week on-site, Praying Pelican Missions’ motto is “people over projects every time”, meaning more than technical construction skills we need team members who care about the homeowners we are working with! Great candidates for this team will be flexible, hard-working, and have a servant’s heart. However, the ability to engage in physical labor is still important. Above all else we hope for team members who are excited about coming alongside the Praying Pelican Missions' missionaries and supporting them and the work the Lord is doing in the affected area.
Next Steps
Applications are open online from October 1 through November 1. Interviews are conducted in October and November of every year for the following spring.
