Whole life: 62 years. Bob started in the restaurant business as a child, his father Emmett owned and operated a small eatery called “Carl’s Lunch,” a working class lunch spot with twenty stools. Bob learned a lot from his father and somehow returned to the business after college.


B.S. in Biology from Stevens Point, University of Wisconsin

What He Does at Bethel

Bob oversees a talented management team, over 89 Sodexo associates, and 180 energetic Bethel student employees. This team manages and runs the outstanding dining service venues here at Bethel. Bob greatly values the relationship Sodexo has with Bethel University and the students it serves. He truly enjoys getting to know the students and listening to their suggestions and requests to make their dining experience more like home.

In His Free Time

Bob is blessed with a great family. He is married to Ruth Sass Schuchardt, who has also been a part of the Bethel Dining Services team for 19 years. Together they enjoy time with their daughter Cindy and son-in-law Dennis, who reside in Jackson, Georgia. Bob and Ruth enjoy all things outdoors, from camping, kayaking and canoeing, to gardening and riding their bikes together. A relaxing night often involves a fire in the chiminea on their deck. Their camping now involves a customized tear drop trailer which has enabled them to travel and volunteer across the United States without sleeping on the ground!

Starting in the 2017-2018 school year, Bob and Ruth have instigated their Big Dream - They have become contractors and started building their cabin on the Gunflint Trail, or as they say... God's Country.

Favorite Food

Bob’s favorite food definitely has to be Italian. Growing up as part of an Italian family, Bob has many special memories from those big family feasts! Bob and Ruth really enjoy the harvest from their garden, from fresh harbs, to tomatoes and beans, their summers are filled with fresh veggies and great grilling. Together they enjoy culinary adventures locally and wherever they travel.
