Event Description

This is a review course to provide concentrated instruction just prior to taking the AMCB Certification Exam to become a certified nurse-midwife. The presenters, Dr. Cara Busenhart and Dr. Melissa Stec, have been presenting this same content at the annual ACNM Conference for many years. We cannot guarantee successful certification by AMCB with your attendance. However, we look forward to helping our attendees become better prepared for sitting for the AMCB certification exam.

Based on the results of the recent Board Review survey, we will be offering only the two-day option. The two-day review course with extra content and practice will be held on March 30-31, 2020, and will cost $300. Every year, students have requested more content so we encourage you to register for the two-day review and register early!

Dr. Missi Stec is a Professor of Nursing and Associate Dean for Evaluation and Educational Innovation at the SUNY Downstate College of Nursing. She is currently working to develop an innovative BS to DNP degree for family nurse practitioners at Downstate, the first doctoral degree program to be launched in the College of Nursing.  Her team will also begin offering an iPad based RN to BS program in the coming months. These programs will focus on the curation of content using digital platforms and the use of alternative assessment and differentiated instruction which are crucial to teaching and learning in today's higher education classroom. Dr. Stec pairs her passion for technology integration with her commitment to the student experience through her role in evaluation at the College. Dr. Stec holds a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University, a Master of Science in Nursing with a Nurse-Midwifery specialization and a Doctor of Nursing Practice both from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Cara A. Busenhart is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Midwifery & Advanced Practice at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Cara completed her MSN at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and her certificate in nurse-midwifery at the University of Kansas in 2004. She returned to the University of Kansas as faculty and Program Director of Midwifery in 2009 and completed her PhD in 2014. Cara has taught all of the midwifery specialty courses, as well as health assessment and health promotion, but her passion lies in primary care of women and antepartum care. She has practiced full-scope midwifery for more than 10 years, from a private practice with other CNMs and OB/GYNs to interprofessional safety net clinics caring for uninsured and undocumented women. Dr. Busenhart is active within the American College of Nurse-Midwives and was inducted as a Fellow in the College in 2018. She has worked closely with Dr. Stec since 2012 to revise the ACNM Exam Prep Review Book, as well as the ACNM Exam Prep course for students. Cara is passionate about evidence-based education and is eager to facilitate student learning--usually integrating a large dose of humor and a moderate amount of energy and fun into learning sessions.
