Event Description

Campers will learn about economic, educational, health, and social disparities that exist for BIPOC individuals in MN. They will identify antiracist interventions and legislative proposals to address these disparities and develop an advocacy and/or awareness campaign/project as a capstone.

Campers will first be introduced to the variety of disparities that exist in MN for BIPOC individuals and families. This will be done through use of news stories, videos/documentaries, and lecture. Campers then will hear directly from BIPOC leaders and politicians in the area advocating for equitable/fair laws and access to essential resources (food, shelter, healthcare). Campers then will develop groups centered on a cause selected by the group to develop an awareness/advocacy plan that will be presented to their families at the close of the camp.

Overnight accommodation will be provided in Nelson Hall. Housing is dorm-style with each bedroom having 2 twin XL beds, 2 desks and chairs, and a closet. Gender-specific community bathrooms are located on each secure wing. Students will be housed with other students from their camp, with up to 2 students per room. Roommate requests can be emailed to conference-event@bethel.edu.

Students will be supervised by a Bethel Resident Director and a team of overnight Hosts hired from our pool of Bethel Student Resident Assistants.
