Large Group Sessions | 3:45 p.m.

  • Brass Rehearsal: The Pines of the Appian Way | Benson Great Hall
Members of the Festival Brass Quintet with Trumpet Professor Dr. Takako Senn will coach and rehearse the performers on Pines of the Appian Way with conductor Dr. Bushman in preparation for the Festival Finale Concert. Directors, chaperones and other interested students are welcome at this session.
  • Jazz Workshop: “Thinking in Jazz” | Underground
Led by Professor of Percussion Terry Vermillion, the members of the Faculty Jazz Trio will talk about improvisation and what they think about while performing and rehearsing a jazz chart.
  • Composition for a New Era | Eastlund Room
Professor of Composition Dr. Kristian Twombly will talk about what composers at SCSU create when writing works for “new media” and the possibilities that exist for music involving electronics and collaborating with performers and artists.
  • Woodwind Panel Discussion: It’s All About the Reed! | CC 430
St. Cloud Symphony members Jill Pattock (clarinet), Brendon Bushman (oboe) and Emma Plehal (bassoon) will lead a discussion about what it takes to be successful as a woodwind player. Students can bring prepared ensembles to perform for feedback from the panel or general questions about reeds, practicing, developing high range or other advanced techniques.
