Residential full-time faculty members are required to participate in their department's ceremony for Spring Commencement, unless excused by the VP Dean. Adjunct faculty members are encouraged to participate. All faculty must RSVP by May 13. Seminary staff are also encouraged to attend commencement activities and can sit with the audience for the ceremony.

Faculty Lineup

Important instructions will be given at lineup. 30 minutes before the ceremony starts lineup in CLC 117 with your full academic regalia. Faculty members are part of the processional and recessional and sit on stage during the ceremony. Under the direction of the marshals, the graduating class will process into Benson Great Hall first, followed by faculty, and then program personnel. The recessional order is opposite.

If you are part of the program personnel, report to the President's Office (CLC 234) 20 minutes before the ceremony starts.

Class Photo

Just before the recessional, faculty, and program personnel will join the graduates and marshals on the main floor of Benson Great Hall for a photo. This photo is a Bethel Seminary tradition that began in 1871. The recessional order is opposite the processional under direction of the marshals.


Wear your full academic regalia, including cap, gown, and hood. If you do not own regalia, you may rent or purchase it through the Campus Store. Email Brenda Edinger at b-edinger@bethel.edu for details. Orders must be placed at least one month prior to the ceremony to ensure delivery.
