Federal financial aid regulations make a distinction between programs which are degree or certificate seeking and those which are required for licensure (non-degree seeking). This distinction determines program eligibility, graduate or undergraduate enrollment requirements and borrowing limits for federal loans.

Students pursuing the following license programs do not qualify for any federal financial aid:

K-12 Principal License, Superintendent License, and Director of Special Education License.

Graduate Level Enrollment and Loan Limits

These certificate and licensure programs follow graduate level requirements for federal loans.

Students enrolled in these programs establish half-time enrollment by carrying at least 3 credits per semester and are eligible for Unsubsidized Loans at the graduate level


  • Certificate in EnVoy Classroom Management Strategies
  • Certificate in Leadership Foundations
  • Certificate in STEM K-12 Education
  • International Baccalaureate Certificate in Teaching and Learning
  • Nurse Educator Certificate
  • Nurse Leader's Certificate
  • Play Therapy Certificate (begins Fall 2020)

Undergraduate Level Enrollment and Loan Limits

These certificate and licensure programs follow undergraduate level requirements for federal loans.

Students enrolled in these programs establish half-time enrollment by carrying at least 6 credits per semester and are eligible for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans at the undergraduate senior level.

  • Developmental Disabilities License
  • Emotional/Behavioral Disorders License
  • Secondary (5-12) Teaching License
  • Teaching License (various content areas)
  • Academic Behavioral Strategist License
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders License
  • Teacher Coordinator of Work-Based Learning License
