Financial Aid

Financing your semester abroad may seem like an overwhelming task. The Office of Off-Campus Programs/ International Studies is committed to making this process as smooth as possible while providing you with information about financing opportunities.

Financial aid applies toward one semester of full-time, off-campus study during your four years at Bethel, including institutional aid and federal and state aid. Institutional aid does NOT apply to a second off-campus semester or any short-term programs like summer or interim. Work-study does not apply to study abroad.

Bethel Programs and Bethel Affiliated Programs

The overall cost typically includes tuition, room and board, and in-country travel. Financial aid that is currently being received – including institutional, federal, and state aid – will directly apply to a semester spent off-campus, with the exception of awards that require a student to be on campus (i.e. performance awards and work-study).

Non-Affiliated Programs

Costs and scholarship opportunities for non-affiliated programs will vary depending on the program. For most non-affiliated partners, the student is responsible to pay Bethel's tuition, the program's room and board, and his or her airfare. We encourage you to meet with a study abroad advisor to discuss the specifics of the organization that you may be working with as your provider.

Students attending non-affiliated programs will likely be able to receive all financial aid for their semester abroad; however, they should liaise closely with the Office of International Studies to ensure that financial information is understood and applied correctly.
