Visit Bethel University at the Minnesota State Fair

The Bethel University rock is painted to remind the Bethel community to visit the university's booth at the Minnesota State Fair.

Once again, Bethel University will greet visitors at the “Great Minnesota Get Together!”  More than 125 Bethel volunteers have been trained and are ready to staff the university’s booth at the Minnesota State Fair. The booth is located on Block 32 in the Education Building just north of the main entrance (MN State Fair map) and will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily between August 23 and Labor Day, September 3.

Values Wristbands

Booth visitors will receive a Bethel core values wristband, which is available in seven colors and include one of the university’s core values: Christ-follower, character-builder, truth-seeker, learner, salt and light, reconciler, and world-changer.

Photo Op with President Jay Barnes

Alumni and current students who visit the booth will have the opportunity to get their photo taken with Bethel President Jay Barnes – or at least a reasonable facsimile. A life-sized photo of the president, mounted on wood, is sure to be a highlight of the Bethel booth. Props and a Bethel University backdrop will make for a fun photo experience. Photos sent to news@bethel.edu  will be posted on the Bethel University Facebook page and visitors who go to Facebook and “tag” themselves in their picture will be automatically entered in a drawing for Bethel gear.

Alumni Guestbook and Gift

Alumni can show their support of Bethel by signing the Alumni Guestbook. Visitors who sign their names as Bethel alumni will receive a free Bethel tote bag (while supplies last).

Bethel Sodexo Food Featured at Fair

Bethel Sodexo Executive Chef Justin Kaderlik will compete in the 10-year anniversary celebration of Minnesota Cooks at 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 26, in Carousel Park. Kaderlik will prepare grilled sweet corn from Gilbertson's Farms, AmaBlu cheese from Caves of Faribault, caramelized bacon apple vol-au-vent, smoked red chili oil and a 10-year tawny port reduction, and fried frizzled leeks, featuring sweet corn from Gilbertson's Farms.

Bethel Artist Showcased at Fair

Bethel Art Gallery Director Michelle Westmark will be part of the “12’12’12’: Twelve Artists, Twelve Hours, Twelve Days” exhibit. For 12 hours during each of the 12 days of the 2012 fair, this group of artists will demonstrate how their art object is created. Westmark will be featured on Sunday, August 26, in the Fine Arts Building. Her project will invite fair-goers to participate in a game of visual telephone called "The Telephone Booth." She will have 10 Holga film cameras with an image taken somewhere on the fairgrounds and a corresponding log book with a one-sentence description of the image. Participants can borrow each camera and take a photo somewhere on the fairgrounds that responds to the first photo based on what is written in the log book. They will then write a sentence about their photo for the next participant and the game will continue until the roll of film is done. Later a contact sheet for each camera will be on display and available to see on Facebook.
