A Fond Farewell to “Frenchy”

Frenchy poses for photos during her farewell party.

Charlotte French, Bethel’s beloved dining center cashier, has retired after 22 years of service to Bethel University. A campus icon, she is known to everyone simply as “Frenchy.”

The Bethel community sent her off in style on February 21 when alumni, students, staff, and faculty came together to celebrate “Frenchy Day” in the Monson Dining Center. The event included a Frenchy cake, custom autographed water bottles, and a life-size Frenchy cutout for photo opportunities. The menu for the day consisted of Frenchy’s favorites: sesame beef, grilled cheese and tomato soup, tator tot hot dish, and a Frenchy-dip sandwich. Sodexo, Bethel's food services provider, made all the arrangements for the farewell event.

In a letter to Bethel students, Frenchy shared some of her best Bethel memories. “I was there to listen when you were scared, encourage you when you had a test, and remind you to study the books, not the girls and boys,” she wrote. “Most of all I prayed for you…I love each and every one of you.”

Thank you, Frenchy, for sharing your time, your kindness, and your laughter with the Bethel community. Enjoy retirement and visit often.
