Bethel Announces New Executive Assistant to the President

Bethel University has announced that Randall Bergen will be the new executive assistant to the president. Bergen comes to Bethel after serving as the acting president of Greenville College in Illinois during the 2012-13 academic year. "I believe that Randy’s vast experience will serve Bethel and me well during this next season,” says Bethel University President Jay Barnes. “He is a strong communicator, has rich experience in resolving conflict, has in-depth experience in assessment, and has a heart for Christian higher education. Having served as acting president, he understands clearly how key this role is in supporting me and Bethel in the years ahead.” 

Before assuming acting president responsibilities at Greenville, Bergen served as provost, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, dean of instruction, and professor of psychology, all at Greenville College. He has also served in various roles at Geneva College in Pennsylvania and was the co-director of the national Comprehensive Assessment Project conducted through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).

An alumnus of Greenville, Bergen continued his education at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign where he received his master’s and doctoral degrees in psychology. His research and publications have focused on the psychology of academic achievement and on outcomes assessment in higher education. Bergen will begin his new role at Bethel on July 22.
