Bethel Names Dean of Natural and Behavioral Sciences

The College of Arts & Sciences announces Carole Young as Dean of Natural and Behavioral Sciences.

Young has taught as a professor in the undergraduate psychology department at Bethel since 1990. She has served in numerous capacities alongside her teaching role in her time here. She has served as faculty moderator, interim chair of the psychology department, and interim chair of the Counseling Center. She led the General Education Modification process and served as General Education coordinator during implementation of the new General Education curriculum. Young was instrumental in the development and structure of Bethel's Institutional Review Board (IRB). In 2003, her colleagues recognized her with the Faculty Excellence in Teaching award. Prior to coming to Bethel, Young was on the faculty at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, for four years. She has a B.A. in psychology from Spring Arbor College in Spring Arbor, Michigan, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Arizona State University.  

Vice President and Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Deb Sullivan-Trainor is confident in Young’s placement in this role. “Carole will bring a number of significant strengths to this position,” Sullivan-Trainor said. “She is an excellent teacher and a respected researcher. She is a very strong advocate for the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) as a Christian liberal arts institution and for the role of the sciences in the CAS student experience.”

The Dean of Natural and Behavioral Sciences will provide leadership for the division during a pivotal time as the institution is strategically visioning for the future, in expansion and improvement of facilities and opportunities for the science departments and its programs. Young will begin in the role on August 1.
