Members of Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, S.D., Bob and Gina Johnson were active in the Baptist General Conference (BGC; now converge Worldwide). In fact, Bob served three terms on the BGC trustee board and served as interim pastor for a number of congregations after retiring from Planned Giving: Gifts of Annuity his insurance company in 1985. The Johnsons wanted to support Bethel’s growth and its leadership, and to that end, established (or funded) four gift annuities between 2001 and 2008. While they were alive, they received quarterly checks from Bethel. When both passed away, Gina in 2007 and Bob in 2008, Bethel received a legacy gift, bringing their goal—to help students—to fruition. All of the proceeds of their gift annuities have gone to the Bob and Gina Johnson Seminary Scholarship, helping fund future seminary students’ education.
“I am deeply grateful to Bob and Gina for their lives of ministry and their passionate support of Christian higher education,” says John Neibergall, Bethel development officer. “They have blessed so many lives, and will continue to do so with their love and friendship.”
