Community Life Events

The Student Development & Support Office coordinates numerous seminary events throughout the year.

Genesis Orientation

All incoming students are required to participate in one full day exposure to life at Bethel Seminary ahead of the fall semester. At Genesis Orientation, students get to know one another through small group activities, become acquainted with Bethel's facilities, register for fall classes, and interact with the faculty and staff. Students also meet with seminary leaders responsible for campus activities, financial aid, and supervised ministry. Students entering in the Spring semester participate in a shorter orientation program ahead of the Spring semester. In addition, you will also have your research seminar in the library and take your initial assessments. Assessments, required for all new students enrolled in a degree program, are taken through the Office of Formation and Placement. These take about four hours to complete.

Chapel is held three times each semester for all students, staff & faculty. They are generally held in the Seminary Chapel to promote a relaxed and conversational atmosphere. Occasionally, the Lower Campus Center may be used (e.g. Advent Service).

Community Lunches

During the semester, we organize regular Community Lunches for students, staff and faculty to enjoy fellowship and occassionally also offer a special speaker or panel. Community Lunches are from 12:00-1:30pm and offered about once every other week during the semester. Most are full free lunches, but we also have BYOL (bring-your-own-lunch) events with a dessert provided. Email reminders will be sent ahead of each Community Lunch.

Honors Celebration

The Honors Celebration occurs in the spring semester. This formal service recognizes students who have received various honors/awards, and/or have been active in seminary community life. The service also includes the presentation of the senior class gift to the provost and the passing of the gavel to the new Student Senate president.

Senior Event

Each spring the senior class, faculty, staff, and spouses spend an entertaining evening together called "The Senior Event," which is planned by the Graduation Committee and Student Development and Support. The venue varies from year to year. It is an evening of fun and celebration.
