What can I do with this degree?
The knowledge of Scripture is critical to the identity of Christians, especially in the world. The lack of biblical knowledge negatively impacts Christian belief and the ability to dialogue. Having biblical knowledge grounds us to effectively live out our calling. You'll learn to interpret Scripture exegetically and contextually, understanding the historical context in which the Scriptures were written in order to apply the messages to contemporary situations.
You'll also learn the history of Christian doctrine and how that history continues to shape contemporary expressions of faith. A historical understanding of theology links today's Christians with those of the past. Knowledge of the beliefs and practices of the past remind contemporary Christians that they belong to a larger story, helping to root present day beliefs and practices in the wisdom of those who have come before.

My time in Bethel's Biblical and Theological Studies Department was intellectually stimulating and spiritually formative. It ignited me to pursue a career in Biblical Studies. On account of Bethel's incredible professors and in depth course offerings, I entered graduate school with a major advantage. I also learned by example how to be a Christian scholar and use my mind in service of the Church.

I’m extremely grateful I got a liberal arts education. I didn’t just learn the answers in undergrad—I learned how to find the answers myself while working through problems and issues, and how to apply what I learned in different settings. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my Bethel degree, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
