Bethel's B.S. in Computer Engineering program is built on thriving programs in math, computer science, physics, and engineering. Students become well-rounded thinkers and learn from award-winning faculty with terminal degrees in specific science and technology fields. But they'll also take general education courses and complete substantial, hands-on design projects alongside students from other engineering disciplines. They'll boost their communication and collaboration skills while designing computer hardware which can be embedded in other devices such as microwave ovens and smartphones.

Why should I study computer engineering?

The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics projects many tech manufacturing jobs to move overseas in the coming years, but the number of computer design and installation positions to increase stateside by 21% by 2024. And the average starting salary for a computer engineer with a bachelor's degree is $100,000.

This field is growing rapidly, and Bethel students will be intentionally exposed to a variety of specialized courses and work closely with students from a variety of majors. So they'll be well-prepared to lead and collaborate within the cross-disciplinary teams that are pushing this industry forward and proposing imaginative solutions to the complex tech problems facing our society.

What can I do with this degree?

Computer engineers design and develop the computer processors, circuit boards, memory devices, networks, and routers that are the physical foundation of our ever-changing tech landscape. This could include roles in:

  • microprocessor design
  • biotechnology and medical device companies
  • medical imaging
  • data storage
  • communication technologies

What skills will I develop?

  • Microprocessor design
  • Creative problem-solving, troubleshooting, and debugging
  • Spatial design
  • Foundational physics concepts
  • Computer architecture
  • Networking
  • Programming languages including C/C++ and Java
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Computer graphics
  • Electrical engineering
  • Database systems
  • High-performance computing
  • Operating systems
  • Software engineering
  • Project management and cross-disciplinary collaboration

What unique experiences or opportunities will I have?

Hands-on learning experiences will set students apart from other job candidates:

  • A semester-long design project for a real-world client, completed alongside students from different engineering disciplines
  • Internships for academic credit or to earn income
  • Original research alongside award-winning faculty
  • Access to state-of-the-art research labs for class and personal research projects

This program is offered within Bethel's signature liberal arts learning environment, so students become well-rounded thinkers, able to communicate clearly and effectively.
