Singing is a great skill. And with Bethel’s vocal K-12 emphasis, you’ll learn how to effectively teach students the art of singing.

Why should I study vocal music education?

Youth of all ages enjoy music, and music is a vital part of education. The Music Education: Vocal K-12 degree will allow you to apply your passion to music to help youth grow in their appreciation of music and develop into skilled vocalists.

What can I do with this degree?

Our students fill a variety of positions at schools:

  • Classroom music teacher
  • Choir director
  • Orchestra conductor
  • Voice teacher
  • Musical arts administrator
  • Composer

What skills will I develop?

  • Methods of teaching voice
  • Studies in the pronunciation of songs in foreign languages
  • Music theory fundamentals
  • Composing
  • Arranging
  • Principles of conducting
  • Methods of teaching elementary and secondary music
  • Education theory
  • Musical performance

You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in the R.E.A.L. Experience—a program specifically designed to help you gain the relevant, hands-on experience employers desire—so that when you graduate, you’ll be as impressive in practice as you are on paper.

What unique experiences or opportunities will I have?

Hands-On Learning Opportunities: You’ll start learning in the school setting near the start of the program. Additional hands-on learning opportunities throughout the program include practicums, observations, and a semester of student teaching.

Collaboration with Faculty: Work one-on-one with your professors to hone technical skills and collaborate on research and performances.

Musical Tours: Participate in a music group that travels across the United States and abroad. Previous locations have included Singapore, Malaysia, Poland, Sweden, France, and more.

Festival of Christmas: Multiple music groups participate in this popular, large musical festival every year. You’ll perform in Benson Great Hall, a premier performance venue with over 1,700 seats.
