Show love and compassion to residents near Houston who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Date

March 10–18, 2018

Location

Friendswood, Texas is a suburban community southeast of downtown Houston. Not far from Galveston Bay, much of Friendswood was under floodwaters following Hurricane Harvey.

The Experience

Our team will be serving a local church in Friendswood as well as reaching out to that church's neighbors on its behalf. We'll be both serving the church and being the church! Our desire is to represent the local church by extending love and compassion. We hope the community will thereby see the local church as an earthly representation of the love of our Lord.

Our Ministry Partner

The Houston team will be partnering with Evangelical Free Church in America’s (EFCA) crisis relief arm called “Reach Global Crisis Relief." We have been connected to a church in Friendswood, Texas—just outside of Houston. The church itself is currently doing repair work on its own building, but it is also hosting teams like ours to gut, clean, and renovate the homes of its neighbors. It's a "hands and feet of Jesus“ sort of thing!

Trip Cost

This team of 10 students has a team fundraising goal of $6,000 (about $600 per person). Fundraising will be a major part of the year for this team, which will help the financial bottom line!

Who Should Participate

This trip is an ideal activity for students who want to "give legs to the heartbreak" they have felt watching news stories about storm damage. This team will do a lot of hard physical work, but also bring out relational skills by loving the homeowners and community members they meet.

Next Steps

Applications are open through November 1.  Interviews are conducted in October and November of every year for the following spring.
