Kara Fifield

Director of Disability Resources and Services

My Role At Bethel

I am the Director of Disability Resources & Services. In this role, I work with students with disabilities to address their accessibility concerns and to create an accommodation plan, and I work with faculty on training and consulting on disability-related cases. I am also the consultant on campus to work towards the DRS mission of creating an accessible university that embraces and celebrates diversity.

Why You'd Contact Me

If you are a student with a disability, you can contact me for information related to disability questions and services available at Bethel. If you are a faculty, I am here to consult on disability-related concerns and to provide training in terms of access. I am also the person on campus who can be contacted in regards to accessibility barriers on campus.

Reasons I Love My Job

I enjoy being creative and finding solutions to help address the barriers students experience in regards to access. Each student is more than their diagnosis and I enjoy partnering with them in this endeavor. Being able to see a student through the four-year experience and being an encouragement is energizing. I also enjoy working with faculty and staff to work towards access in the classroom. Creating partnerships across campus brings me great joy!

In My Free Time

In my free time, I spend time with my three kids and husband. I enjoy traveling, photography, and trying out new places.

Best Bethel Tradition

Welcome Week and Festival of Christmas. Bethel does Welcome Week to the highest level of care, and I enjoy seeing the new incoming students being individually welcomed and cared for on campus. Festival of Christmas is a time of enjoying the Christmas Season and it is so beautiful listening to the student performance and being in the Benson Great Hall.
