Dear Class of 1967,
I happened to see this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that comes to mind when I think back to last weekend: “I awoke this morning with devout thanksgiving for my friends, the old and the new.”
That couldn’t be truer. We had such a great time at homecoming and our 40th reunion. I have gathered many Bethel friends over the years, but always loved our class in particular, feeling it was somehow unique. This reunion reaffirmed why: so many wonderful people. What fun to share time with friends after all these years!
We learned some interesting things regarding who did what and when, without anyone knowing about it till now. After 40 years, I guess it was finally safe to claim ownership of some of the pranks that baffled the administration back in the ’60s.
More importantly, we were able to share some of what is happening in our lives now. I think we are all grateful we were thrown together those 40-plus years ago in Fine Arts, Western Civ, and the rest. We made rich relationships that have lasted. In fact, we still enjoyed each other so much, they had to kick us out of our meeting room on Saturday night!
If you didn’t make it to this year’s reunion, remember we have another one scheduled in five years. Put it on your calendar now and encourage the next Bethel alum you see to do the same. Homecoming “Freshly Roasted Just For You” 2007 is over—my coffee cup is empty—but I now have so many memories, both old and new, to sustain me until next time. (Plus, I also have your email addresses and cell phone numbers!) So until then: blessings and “see you soon.”
