The Class of 1992 Coffeehouse Enjoys “Dueling Banjos” Encore

WOW! Now that’s what we’re talking about! It was a great time to “celebrate the moments of our life,” “filled to the brim” with fun, memories, and friends. Truly this reunion was “good to the last drop,” and indicative of everything we love about Bethel. Thanks be to God that there is “no better place on earth than the road that leads to heaven” with friends who remind you that you’re not alone in this world and that “the Lord our God is with us.”

With total attendance representing more than eight states coast to coast and even Africa, 87 from the Class of 1992 made it back to Bethel for our 15-year reunion. We celebrated with a coffeehouse reception and then joined other reunion classes for dinner. Following the dinner, our group returned to the Olson Gallery for a program like no other.

The “Bethel Blitz” trivia game reminded us how much fun our class could have. We played in teams that were formed by freshman dorms. We became reacquainted with our freshman dorm mates. Some of the questions asked were:

· “Who remembers what we gave President Brushaber at our graduation?” Answer: Puzzle pieces and the accompanying box.

· “What was the name of our favorite janitor?” Answer: Keith Tekautz.

· “What was our freshman year Welcome Week verse?” Answer: I Timothy 4:12.

We also played Name That Tune and Name That Professor (overall, Getsch won). And then Dana Ripley and Ron Hardy had our class clapping along to their wonderful encore performance of the “Dueling Banjos.”

Gus Broman and Dana Ripley took a few minutes to remind us of the challenge given when we graduated: “Recommit to leading godly lives, lives that represent everything Bethel represents. And remember that our Lord our God IS with us.” That challenge still stands true today as it did 15 years ago.

It was fantastic to reconnect with so many people! Our reunion was like getting together with family once again, with a spirit of camaraderie that is only experienced within a group of Christians.

Please be sure to check back soon for our online photo gallery and video from our gathering at: http:// www.bethel.edu/alumni/reunions/07/classof92reunion

If you were unable to attend, you can still order a Memory Book for $5 by emailing the alumni office at alumni@bethel.edu or calling 800.255.8706, ext. 8761.

Thanks to the reunion committee (Marcee Nungusser Payne, Andy Bennett, Gus Broman, Dana Ripley, and Deb Coleman Morse), and to Debbie Espeland and the Bethel alumni office for making the night an awesome success!

Homecoming reminds us what Bethel is all about. The mission statement says: “Boldly informed and motivated by the Christian faith, Bethel University educates and energizes men and women for excellence in leadership, scholarship, and service. We prepare graduates to serve in strategic capacities to renew minds, live out biblical truth, transform culture, and advance the gospel.”

When we were students, many hundreds and thousands of alumni and friends of Bethel were there for us. They gave sacrificially to Bethel so that we could have the experiences and opportunities we enjoyed.

We now have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of current students at Bethel. Through Christ-centered programs and education in numerous choices of occupations, we’re reaching the world through the next Bethel generation. Let’s continue to support Bethel University by our donations and touch hearts, shape minds, affect the culture, and impact the world!

Finally, please remember to pray for the faculty, staff, and students. It’s a tremendous encouragement for them to know that thousands of alums like us are sustaining Bethel through our prayers and giving.

So, until we see each other again (reunion 2012!), let us remain committed to leading godly lives.

Keep the Faith,

Deb Coleman Morse
