Job Summary

Full-time 3-year (renewable) faculty appointment in the Department of English. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Teach the equivalent of 7 courses per year. Load may include courses in news writing, editing and design, feature writing, and various general areas (community journalism, advocacy journalism) as well as advising student publications and directing internships. Contributions to general education composition courses are also possible. General faculty responsibilities include student advising, and department and committee assignments.

Required Skills

Must be an excellent writer with work and/or teaching/research experience in new media and multi-platform narrative journalism. Should be able to articulate a vision for journalism in a Christian university, to prepare Christians to contribute to this field, and to implement innovative ideas for developing a faith-based program with global dimensions. Candidate must be committed to the liberal arts educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the university and committed to pursuing excellence in undergraduate teaching, mentoring students, and scholarship. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to contribute to Bethel’s anti-racism efforts and cross-cultural understanding.

Required Education

M.A. in Journalism or related field required; Ph.D preferred.
