Royal Celebration

Saturday, October 5 | 7-8 p.m.
Benson Great Hall, Community Life Center
Free, all are welcome

Don't miss this entertaining, high-energy celebration of Bethel's past, present, and future featuring an original musical production written by Joy Donley '89 and Michael Pearce Donley '87 (of Triple Espresso), a talented cast of Bethel alumni, and 2013 Alumnus of the Year Jay Substad '88!

The Show

For Bethel's 2013 Homecoming, there will be no dry rehashing of bygone days. Instead, 50 years of Bethel history will be told by a cast of 20 performers, singing songs from the epic musical, Les Miserables, but with a uniquely Bethel twist. In Victor Hugo's masterpiece, the main character was Jean ValJean, but we will follow two Scandinavian transplants, John and Val Johnson, through their love story of five decades as students, alumni, faculty and eventually parents of the next generation at our beloved university.

Alumnus of the Year

The Royal Celebration will also feature Bethel University 2013 Alumnus of the Year, Jay Substad '88.

Jay serves on the Board of Directors of Agua Viva, which is committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ—the Living Water—with the people of Honduras. Jesus' "Good News" is lived out with poor rural communities as North American volunteers and their Honduran counterparts build relationships and work to meet the greatest expressed needs: clean, accessible water and sanitary latrines.
