Biography

Kayla Skeate began teaching nursing at Bethel University in the fall of 2020. Dr. Skeate is licensed and certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner and teaches pediatric theory, skills, simulation, and clinical courses. Dr. Skeate also has a strong interest in nursing fundamentals and nursing health assessment, both of which are topics she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice project on during her time in graduate school. She has collaborated on projects, presentations, and articles with a focus on incorporting technology and current evidence-based teaching practices in nursing courses.

Research interests

Research interests include implementation of evidence-based best practices for nursing education. Best practice areas of interest include incorporation of technology into the classroom including student self-recorded video as well as introduction of clinical judgment and NextGen NCLEX alternate style questions on exams and in learning activities.

Teaching specialty

Pediatric nursing including aspects of acute care and community-based care. Special areas of interest include newborn and neonatal care particularly infant nutrition/lactation.
