Event Description

"World-changer" is one of Bethel’s seven core values. At Bethel, we aim to prepare graduates who are equipped to use their God-given talents to shape and change the world. The World-Changers series provides an opportunity for Bethel alums, parents, donors, ministry partners, and friends to hear insights from world-changers within and beyond the Bethel community.

Hear from Mark Strauss, University Professor of New Testament at Bethel Seminary San Diego, as he presents material from his newest book, Jesus Behaving Badly: The Puzzling Paradoxes of the Man from Galilee.

There’s the picture we have of Jesus in our minds—the Jesus that everyone likes—and there’s the Jesus of the Gospels. He demanded moral perfection, told people to cut off body parts, made prophecies that haven't come true, and defied religious and political authorities. When we unpack the puzzling paradoxes of the man from Galilee, we find greater insight into his countercultural message and mission than we could ever have imagined.

Jesus Behaving Badly will be available for an exclusive pre-release sale to World-Changers attendees (available in stores November 9). Stick around following this event for a reception and book-signing with Mark.

Mark Strauss, Ph.D., is University Professor of New Testament at Bethel Seminary San Diego. He is the author or coauthor of several books and numerous articles, including How to Read the Bible in Changing Times; Four Portraits, One Jesus: An Introduction to Jesus and the Gospels; How to Choose a Translation for All It's Worth (with Gordon D. Fee); The Essential Bible Companion (with John Walton); and more. He also serves as vice-chair of the Committee for Bible Translation for the New International Version and as an associate editor for the NIV Study Bible. Strauss has a heart for ministry and preaches and teaches regularly at churches, conferences, and college campuses. He lives in San Diego with his wife Roxanne and three kids.
