Event Description

The Bethel community and all of its friends are invited to the following events to commemorate Black History Month and to honor the people and events in the history of the African diaspora.

February 15 | The Underground | 5 p.m.
Mixed Blood Theatre will present Daughters of Africa. Fueled by the songs of Lena Horne, Aretha Franklin, Queen Latifah, and others, this celebration of African-American women’s accomplishments features profiles of the famous and the forgotten. 

February 18 | CC313 | 6:30 p.m.
The documentary, The Language You Cry In, will be shown and discussed. This film tells the fascinating story of a linguist in search of an African song he recorded in the 1930s.

February 22, 24, 26 | Benson Great Hall | 10:15-11 a.m.
Black History Month Chapel Series

February 26 | The Underground | 8 p.m.
Black History Month Coffeehouse

February 27 | Shoreview YMCA | 5:30 p.m.
Black History Month Dinner
The Bethel community is invited to join United Cultures of Bethel for a free dinner of Caribbean and East and West African food as well as soul food. Shuttle service from the CLC Circle will be provided to and from the event beginning at 5 p.m. The Shoreview YMCA is located at 3760 Lexington Ave N.
