Speakers

Scott Winter teaches writing and reporting at Bethel University. Before that, he taught journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for nine years, including international teaching stints in Ethiopia, Kosovo, and India. His storytelling interests lie in the areas of international poverty, multimedia innovation, long-form sports coverage, and strategic design. Before becoming a professor, he was a sportswriter, graphic designer, and high school teacher. His wife is a journalist, and his children hate journalism. He eats red meat as a snack and has a left-handed serve that will take your breath away, even as it glances off your thigh.

Dave Berggren is a reporter for KARE-11 in the Twin Cities and has covered stories throughout the metro area on every imaginable subject. "I'm thrilled to be working in the Twin Cities," says Dave. It's an area I truly love." Interestingly enough, Dave started in television as a TV. He was the mascot for KSTC Channel 45 in the Twin Cities and wore a giant, orange TV costume. From there, he made stops at KAAL-TV, Fox Sports Net, and KMSP Fox-9. He has also logged hundreds of hours as a reporter and photographer in various news helicopters.

Nicolle Mackinnon is a lifestyle magazine editor who currently manages the monthly Lake Minnetonka Magazine and the quarterly Thoughtfully Magazine. She’s also a beauty writer and editor who consults with brands on marketing, content management, and social media strategies, whether it be building them from the ground up or bolstering existing plans. Since graduating from Bethel with a B.A. in journalism, she's supported her alma mater as an advisory board member for the Journalism Department. When she’s not working, Nicolle enjoys puppy watching, perfecting her yoga poses, and persuading her friends to read her newest YA fiction addiction.
