Event Description

This event will engage students in deconstructing what whiteness is, what it means, and the social realities that accompany it. Students will examine its “hidden internal assumptions and contradictions” that perpetuate systems of injustice. The goal is to get the student body to think critically about whiteness, to deconstruct their racial identities, and to seek truth. Ultimately, we “deconstruct whiteness” to become more effective in our work to bring about shalom, justice, and equity. This event aligns with the vision of the European Americans in Solidarity subgroup by specifically fulfilling the first half of our mission. It also gives students an opportunity to learn or better understand what it means to be white, to learn about their racial identity, and then to learn how to act on this new-found knowledge.
