Region 4A Solo and Ensemble Contest

The Minnesota State High School League sponsors one of the most comprehensive programs of interscholastic activities in the United States. In this regional competition, individual musicians and small groups are invited to perform and be adjudicated by judges who specialize in all of the various categories of solos and ensembles. There is no approved music list for this event.

Email Aaron Isakson at aaroni@chof.net for registration details. Registration is $25 for categories 6-9 and $12 for all other solos and ensembles. Directors should be careful to register their students in the category that best suits the music being performed.  

Directors may want to host an in-house music contest in order to choose the best musicians to send to this event. An in-house contest would also give improving musicians a chance to perform for a judge, primarily for the benefit of experience. Schools can hire judges for their in-house contest directly from the judge’s directory on the State High School League website.
