About Our Featured Guest
Robert Plimpton has been an active church organist and music director for 62 years. A native of Pennsylvania, his career was established in the Philadelphia area, where he held major church music positions in Moorestown, NJ, and Bryn Mawr, PA. He has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, and was the accompanist for Singing City Choirs. In 1983 he moved to San Diego and has served several Presbyterian, Methodist, and Lutheran congregations. In 1984 he was appointed San Diego Civic Organist, a position he held for over 16 years. He has maintained an active performance schedule as a solo recitalist, accompanist, and with orchestras, and has performed for numerous conventions of the American Guild of Organists. He has focused on the intersection of the musical and theological dimensions of church music and has pursued non-degree studies at Bethel Seminary San Diego. For five years he has served in the Altar Call Prayer Ministry at the Rock Church Point Loma. In retirement he plans to continue as a freelance musician and volunteer in a variety of ministries in local congregations.
