Event Description

The Bethel community and its friends are invited to the Bethel History Center's fall event:

Looking to the Past for the Seminary of the Future
9:15-10 a.m. | Refreshments | $3
10-11 a.m. | Program | Free

Last fall we held our event in the former seminary building even as we anticipated the seminary's move to Anderson Center. This year we have the opportunity to see the seminary in its new home and hear from Dr. Peter Vogt, the new dean.

Join us for coffee and refreshments in the Community Room, which overlooks a lovely wooded area and pond. We will see a video presentation of other places the seminary has been located over the years, and Dr. Vogt will talk about the unchanging aspects of seminary education that must be retained while adapting to a rapidly changing world.

Following the program, a tour of the new seminary suite will be offered.

An offering will be received to further the important work of the Friends of the History Center.

About Our Presenter

Dr. Peter T. Vogt was recently appointed as Dean of Bethel Seminary. He is well acquainted with Bethel, having been both a student and a faculty member. After receiving his M.Div. from Bethel Seminary, he completed his Ph.D. in Old Testament at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham, England. In 2001, he returned to Bethel Seminary, where he served for 13 years as Professor of Old Testament, teaching courses on the Old Testament, biblical Hebrew, and biblical interpretation. He also published two books and numerous scholarly articles. From 2014 to 2019, Dr. Vogt served as Senior Pastor of LifePoint Church (formerly Trinity Baptist) in Maplewood, Minnesota. He and his wife Cami live in Mendota Heights and have five children ranging in age from 8 to 18 years old. When asked if he had any hobbies, he said that if he had any spare time, he would pursue his hobby of playing the hammered dulcimer. We may have to ask him about that!
