Event Description

This is a one-day board review for the AMCB Certification Exam to become a certified nurse-midwife. The presenters, Dr. Cara Busenhart and Dr. Melissa Stec, have been presenting for the review held at the annual ACNM Conference for many years. We cannot guarantee successful certification by AMCB with your attendance. However, we look forward to helping our attendees become better prepared for sitting for the AMCB certification exam.

Presenters:

Dr. Melissa Stec is an Associate Professor of Nursing and the Program Director for the DNP program at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. Dr. Stec has a BS in Biology and Microbiology and a BSN from the Ohio State University. She completed her MSN in Midwifery in 2005 from Vanderbilt. She returned to Vanderbilt for a DNP that she earned in 2010. Dr. Stec was part of the team that earned the College of Nursing Award as an Apple Distinguished Program, one of only two nursing programs in the country to receive such an honor. She has recently been named Cincy Magazine's Outstanding Educator, a 2015 Apple Distinguished Educator and was nominated as Ohio Nurse of the Year in Education. In 2015, she was also inducted as a fellow in the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She has been active with ACNM as the chair of the Division of Education for the past three years. Previously, she served as vice chair for three years as chair of the information section. She has also had roles in the health information technology taskforce and as treasurer of DOME. Dr. Stec was the managing editor of the ACNM Exam Prep Review Book from 2012 through 2016 and has been coordinating and teaching the onsite exam prep for the past four years.

Dr. Cara A. Busenhart joined the Kansas University School of Nursing faculty in February 2009 where she was named the director of the Nurse-Midwifery Education program at the University of Kansas. Cara's current practice covers women's health care across the lifespan. She is a volunteer Attending Provider at JayDoc Free Health Clinic, Women's Health Initiative Program, where she provides care to vulnerable populations. Cara has also developed practice opportunities interprofessionally with the OB/GYN and Family Medicine Departments at Kansas University School of Medicine/University of Kansas Hospital. Cara recently completed her Ph.D. at the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Her research focus is on interprofessional health care education, competency-based education, and quality indicators for education.
