Event Description
This workshop will share insights from Sierra's clinical work in the American Indian community around collective trauma and healing. Our nation experiences high levels of stress in the social, political, and personal realms which is related to our history of colonization and racial oppression. Indigenous teachings share that we have forgotten how to live on Turtle Island (North America) in a good way, respecting the earth and each other. We will share how social workers can apply those values to their practice with clients and communities without appropriating Native culture. Participants should be familiar with concepts of historical trauma, institutional racism, and environmental justice.
