Topic: Enhancing Resilience and Responding to the Pile-up of Stressors of Students
Presenter: Dr. Ben Lim
The one overwhelming stressor our students experience is the COVID-19 pandemic. Shelter-in-place, lockdowns, and vaccine mandates have rippling effects on the mental health of students and their families. Transitions from face-to-face instruction to online while coping with COVID challenges has generated angst and languor. Depression, anxiety, loneliness, family distress, and financial difficulties are some mental health challenges students have to cope with, on top of class instructions, assignments, and exams. The facilitators will adapt and integrate Patterson’s Family Adjustment and Adaptation Response Model with Dan Siegel’s Window of Tolerance to help students cope with the pile-up of stressors. Participants will practice clinical skills that will help to enhance and maintain resilience; the art of balancing grace with academic rigors will be discussed and practiced.
AGENDA:
5:30PM CST - Light dinner served for those attending in person. Those attending on Zoom are welcome to join for fellowship and conversation at this time.
6:00PM CST - Faculty Development Workshop begins.
