Bethel University is partnering with the University of Minnesota’s Private College Leadership Network to offer the Private College Leadership certificate. This 4-course online certificate will be embedded into the Ed.D. in Leadership in Higher Education curriculum. The program will prepare you as an innovative, confident leader in private college settings with knowledge and skills in organizational development, leadership, entrepreneurship, and decision making.
Courses are taught by professors with years of experience as senior leaders at private colleges around the country. You’ll benefit from their insight and wisdom as you learn what it takes to be a leader in 21st century higher education.
Innovative leadership preparation
You’ll be equipped to find innovative solutions for private higher education’s greatest challenges—such as financial uncertainty, rapidly changing market conditions, limited succession planning, and emerging college alternatives. You’ll also be prepared to lead change as you implement your solutions.
Convenient online format
You’ll take courses in a convenient online format with a cohort of peers who are interested in the same things you are, leading to engaging, informative, and lively discussions. The certificate courses are embedded into the Ed.D. in Leadership in Higher Education calendar.
The Private College Leadership certificate consists of four 3-credit online courses which are embedded into the Ed.D. in Leadership in Higher Education program. You’ll take one course at a time with a cohort of peers. After you complete all 4 courses you’ll receive a graduate-level certificate from the University of Minnesota to add to your doctoral degree from Bethel.

Approximate Program Length
Each online course lasts 8 weeks. Courses are taken consecutively.
Doctoral students who choose to participate will pay the Bethel tuition rate for University of Minnesota credits.
About the Private College Leadership Network
The Private College Leadership Network supports emerging and current leaders in private colleges across Minnesota and nationally. Born out of the jCENTER for Innovative Higher Education, the network is a collaboration between Bethel University and the University of Minnesota.

There are two steps to the application process:
- Apply online through the University of Minnesota—You don’t need to complete the Applicant Statements or Program Supplementary Information.
- Complete Bethel University’s application for the Ed.D. in Leadership in Higher Education. Please make a note in the application comments that you’re applying to the Ed.D. and PCL network.
