Book by Bethel Professor Wins Award

Bethel University Associate Professor and Program Director of Reconciliation Studies Claudia May recently received the 2019 Midwest Book Award.

Claudia May is a sought-after specialist in reconciliation studies and has more than two decades of experience working alongside, teaching, and learning from global and national practitioners in the field.

On May 4, Associate Professor and Program Director of Reconciliation Studies Claudia May’s book When I Fly With Papa won a gold medal in the 2019 Midwest Book Awards’ Religion, Philosophy, and Spirituality category. It was the only children's book to receive a finalist nomination in that category. When I Fly With Papa explores the emotional freedom individuals and communities can experience with God.

The Midwest Independent Publishing Association sponsors the annual Midwest Book Awards to recognize quality in independent publishing in the 12-state Midwestern region (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin). This year there were 254 entrants in 32 categories and the award-winning authors included the following publishers: University of Wisconsin Press, Minnesota Historical Society Press, American Academy of Pediatrics, Button Poetry, and Beaver’s Pond Press.

Earlier this year, When I Fly With Papa received the Illumination Book Awards Enduring Light gold medal in the Christian Children's Book category.
