Brielle Stoyke was inspired to become a midwife at the age of ten when a family friend became a midwife. The adults in her life tell her that the first birth she attended was when she was five, then she saw her sister's birth at age 12 and shadowed her family friend at age 14 and saw her friend catch a baby! She became a candy striper when she was 14 working in maternity, then became a labor and delivery nurse and then a certified nurse-midwife. She practiced for 17 years, mostly all in full scope and her areas of expertise became postpartum depression and breastfeeding. She became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She had two preemie babies herself, a 30 weeker and a 31 weeker, who are both healthy and happy!

Biography

Brielle Stoyke is a RN, CNM, IBCLC and although she worked in full scope midwifery for most of her 17 year career, he areas of interest were breastfeeding and postpartum depression. She had two premature baby girls herself and learned a lot more about labor and birth and parenting to share with her patients after she went through some tough moments herself. She is thrilled to work with students at Bethel Univeristy.

She will be teaching in the Master's of Science Nurse-Midwifery program classes 754 -Clinical integration, 714- Practicuum I and 716-Practicum II. 

Awards

Brielle has received a Shining Star Award in 2014 and one in 2015 at HealthEast. This award is when patients give a monetary amount to the HealthEast Foundation in an employee's name for recognition of excellent patient care. She was named #7 in Blooma Yoga's 'Top 24 Care Providers of Distinction' Award in 2014. She was nominated for the American College of Nurse-Midwives Regional Award of Excellence in 2008. 

Publications

Brielle wrote an article for the National Health Service Corps newsletter in 2003 about her two years of service as a National Health Service Corps scholar. She wrote updates for a column on-line with the American College of Nurse-Midwives regarding her work in licensing birth centers in Minnesota in 2010. 

Presentations

Brielle has given presentations to elementary schools about healthy girl bodies, and to high school students on sexually transmitted diseases. She has presented labor and birth at the Univeristy of St. Thomas Biology of Women and Medicine class several semester's in a row. She has presented at the College of St. Catherine Physician Assistant program about labor and birth.
