Biography

Angela Waterman Hanson completed her Doctor of Music Arts degree in violin performance at the University of Minnesota, where she worked with internationally-known pedagogue Sally O’Reilly.Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, Hanson holds a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from St. Olaf College, where she studied under Charles Gray, and a Master’s degree in violin performance also from the University of Minnesota. Hanson is Adjunct Professor of Violin at Bethel University and at the Association Free Lutheran Bible School and Seminary, both since 2008. She also maintains a private teaching studio out of her home. A member of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra since 2005 (and concertmaster during the 2006-2007 season), Hanson performs as a substitute violinist for the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. She is the concertmaster of the Dakota Valley Symphony, and also plays regularly with the Minnesota Sinfonia. Hanson was a founding member of the Mill City String Quartet and has performed with many other groups including the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Josh Groban, Vocal Essence, Kantorei, the South Dakota Symphony, the Wheaton Symphony, and the Chicago Youth Symphony. She has attended the Aspen, Bravo!, and Kent/Blossom Music Festivals. Throughout her schooling she has won various competitions and in 2005 was the winner of the college division of the MNSOTA (now Mary West) competition. Her solo appearances include performances with the Northern Symphony Orchestra, the Forest Lake District Orchestra, the Dakota Valley Symphony and the Bethel University Orchestra.
