Biography

I have over ten years of working experience in the field of autism and intellectual disability. Currently, I am an autism teacher at Lawrence Free State High School in Lawrence,KS. Prior to becoming a special education teacher, I worked at University of MN as a research associate and University of Kansas as a research professor.  My research interests include social network, self-determination, and social inclusion for adolecents with autism.  My previous experiences include being a general education teacher, behavioral therapist for young children with Autism, and direct support professional for adults with autism in a group home.  My career goal is to bridge the research-practice gap by working with teachers, employment specialists, and parents to develop effective interventions that have high usability and feasibility. I hold a special education license from MN, KS, and SC and a PhD in special education from university of MN.

Research interests

Xueqin's research focuses on promoting self-determination and social inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She has served as a Co-Principal Investigator on a project that examines the employment outcomes of young adults with ASD enrolled in college. She has also served as a Co-Investigator on multiple federally funded grants focusing on students with disabilities, including students with Autism. One project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, involves using a national dataset to understand malleable factors associated with transition planning in students with disabilities.
