Event Description

Have you watched TV crime shows with glowing test tubes and 50-minute plots and wondered how forensic science actually works?

Come learn about the chemistry and biochemistry behind the investigations. Join us for interactive, hands-on experiences using state-of-the-art tools of criminal investigation.

During the camp, students will:

  • Explore forensic science as supported by the fields of chemistry and biochemistry.
  • Use advanced analytical methods such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
  • Reflect on the robustness and uncertainty of scientific measurements, and how results should be communicated.

This camp is for students entering grades 10-12, who have taken at least 1 high school level lab science course.

Overnight accommodations will be provided in Lissner Hall. Housing is suite-style with 3 bedrooms, living area, and private bathroom. Each bedroom has 2 twin XL beds, 2 desks and chairs, and a closet. Students will be housed with other students from their camp, with up to 2 students per bedroom. Roommate requests can be emailed to conference-event@bethel.edu. Students will be supervised by a Bethel Resident Director and a team of overnight hosts hired from our pool of Bethel Student Resident Assistants and Teaching Assistants.

Bethel camps reflect the mission, vision, and values of the university.
