Event Description

In conversation: Wendy Red Star and Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Curator of Native American Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts
April 12 at 6pm in the Eastlund Room, Community Life Center, 2nd level
Reception with the artist in the Olson Gallery following the talk

Wendy Red Star works across disciplines to explore the intersections of Native American ideologies and colonialist structures, both historically and in contemporary society. Raised on the Apsáalooke (Crow) reservation in Montana, Red Star has been documenting “rez cars” and government houses for years. Some of these cars belong to her family and the homes to family friends. These cars and houses are calling out to be observed--offering the viewer a glimpse into the lives of the people who own them.

Exhibition on view in the Olson Gallery: April 6 – May 27, 2017
