Direct Loan Program Instructions

Direct Loans are offered directly through the Department of Education to students who are enrolled at least half time and pursing a degree.

If you plan to borrow this loan, there are just a few more steps you'll need to go through before your loan is complete.

1. Complete entrance counseling and a master promissory note.

First-time Bethel borrowers must complete online loan entrance counseling and a master promissory note (MPN). Be sure to select "Complete Master Promissory Note" and "Complete Entrance Counseling."  Please note - if you complete the "Financial Awareness Counseling," this does not satisfy the loan entrance counseling requirements.

You'll need your FSA ID and password to log in to complete your entrance counseling and sign your MPN. Need a FSA ID? You can get one through the Federal Student Aid website.

2. Request your loan amount.

You can request the amount you'd like to borrow online through your Financial Aid Requirements in MyBethel.

  1. Select the appropriate academic year from the drop down list.
  2. Click the Accept Award Offer tab, decide how much of your Direct Subsidized or Unsubsidized Loan you want to borrow for the full year, and follow the instructions.
  3. Click Submit Decision.
